Fostering a Rescued Pet
Becoming a foster is more than just opening your home; it’s about opening your heart to a dog or cat in need. Fostering a dog or fostering a cat means providing a temporary, safe, and loving environment for homeless animals, helping them transition from a life of uncertainty to one filled with hope. With all medical care and supplies provided, you can focus entirely on giving these animals the love and attention they deserve through temporary foster care, knowing you're making a profound difference in their lives.
Why are Foster Homes Needed?
Rescue330 does not have a physical shelter and relies on foster homes to provide temporary foster care for our rescued pets until they can find a forever home. Our efforts in fostering a dog or fostering a cat include rescuing animals from county pounds, veterinarians, and owners who are no longer able to care for their pets.
Why Should I Foster a Dog or Cat?
Fostering a pet can be one of the most rewarding volunteering experiences you can have. By taking a rescued dog or cat into your home, you free up space in a county pound so more homeless pets can find shelter. You help your foster pet learn how to live in a home, meet new people and other animals, and feel safe and loved. You also choose the type of pet that fits your household — age, size, breed, energy level, whatever works best for your home and lifestyle.
What are the Duties of a Foster?
As a foster parent, you provide daily care and feeding, socialization, and transportation to/from medical appointments. All supplies and medical care are covered by Rescue330. If transportation is ever a challenge, let us know; we're happy to help coordinate. You will also attend events and adoption meetings, and communicate with potential adopters. The amount of time a pet is in foster care can vary — commitment is essential!
What if I End Up Wanting to Keep My Foster?
It happen to almost every foster — that one pet that you can't part with that becomes a "foster fail". If you fall in love and decide to adopt your foster pet, that's not a failure on your part. A pet finding their forever home is always the goal, whether that home was the one they landed in from day one or one that is discovered at an adoption event. We just hope that if you're able, you'll consider fostering again, there is always another pet waiting for a soft place to land.
I'd Love to Foster Short-Term. Can I Do That?
Yes! Our foster parents, who volunteer their time, often have vacations, work travel, and other commitments. That's why there is a need for temporary foster care for animals. Whether you are interested in fostering a cat or fostering a dog, short-term fosters are essential to care for pets while their regular fosters are out of town.
